Islamic nursing conceptual framework

Description

The proposed conceptual framework was developed specifically for nursing within the context of Islamic culture. Each of the four multidimensional concepts of the conceptual framework—humans, health, environment, and nursing—clearly reflects Islam. The dimensions of humans are body, spirit, nature, instinct, and Fetrat. The dimensions of health are wellness, disease, intellectual health, transcendence, and Qalbe Salim. The dimensions of the environment are natural and social. The concept, nursing, is regarded as a science and an art. The goal of nursing is to seek solutions to problems.

Definitions:

• “Fetrat is defined as a specific creation by God that is special for humans. In Fetrat, nurses have to understand that humans fundamentally and without any education know that God’s words are true and that God created everything, including divine insights and tendencies. In this capacity, the spirit is more important than the body” (Sadat Hoseini, 2019, p. 50).
• Qalbe Salim is defined as attainment of ultimate wellness by means of transcendence, which occurs by obeying God’s words. Consequently, God is satisfied with humans, and humans are satisfied with God. In Qalbe Salim, humans are at peace and experience the highest quality of wellness (Sadat Hoseini, 2019, p. 51).

About the Author

Akram Sadat Hoseini

I was born in Tehran capital of Iran. All of my education was in Tehran. I earned a bachelor of medical sciences in 1996 from Tehran university and I earned a master of pediatric nursing from Tarbiat Modares University in 2000. After that, I was a faculty member in TUMS and worked in oncology for 7 years. In 2007 I started PhD course in TMU and received my PhD degree in 2012. During my PhD course, I started the course of Islamic sciences and earned a master of Islamic sciences and ethics in 2014. I started my conceptual framework in PhD courses then continued to develop my idea. I have had an opportunity to work during sabbatical leave with Dr. Jacqueline Fawcett for 3 mounts and developed my idea with her.  After I returned from sabbatical leave I started to earn a masters in psychology and will finish it in 2019.
