An overview of Nightingale’s bicentenary observance activities in the UK, including some of the response to the pandemic will be given in the first keynote. Presentations will describe Nightingale’s personal experiences as she received inspiration and a “call to care for the ill,” her role in “district nursing” (forerunner of community health nursing), and Nightingale’s principles guiding nursing care of the military in the Crimea and how they inform modern combat trauma nursing practice. Nightingale’s understanding of health, her influence on nursing theory, education for the practice of nursing and how her foundation pertains to nurses and the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals will be presented.
