Applying the Roy Adaptation Model (RAM) for DNP & PhD  Graduate Nursing Student Projects

Date/Time: Friday, January 24, 1-4PM ET (12-3 PM CT, 11AM-2PM MT 10AM-1PM PT)

Our upcoming workshop is designed exclusively for graduate nursing students who are eager to delve deep into the intricacies of the Roy Adaptation Model for use in projects. Developed by the esteemed Sister Callista Roy, the RAM is a renowned nursing theory that offers a robust framework for healthcare professionals, especially nurses, to understand how individuals adapt to the multitude of challenges and changes they face in their lives.

The objectives of the seminar are:

  • Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the key concepts, terminology, and components of the Roy Adaptation Model (RAM),including the adaptive modes, processes, and stimuli.
  • Participants will develop critical appraisal skills, enabling them to evaluate evidence and research within the context of the RAM, leading to evidence-based practice in healthcare.
  • Participants will gain practical insights into how the RAM can be applied to a wide range of healthcare cases, diverse settings, and different types of patient care, promoting versatility and adaptability in their practice.
  • Participants will utilize the RAM with direct application in graduate student projects or research.

Seminar Topics:

  • The significance of middle-range theories (MRTs) and how to develop them for nursing practice.
  • Roy Adaptation Model: Key definitions, stimuli, processes, and adaptive modes.
  • Assumptions of the RAM – scientific, philosophic, and cultural.
  • The potential for a faith-based orientation in using the RAM.
  • Developing the critical appraisal of evidence using RAM.
  • Applications for graduate student projects and research designs.  

Continuing Education Units are being applied for this workshop.
