The discussion will progress from descriptions given by Dr. Neuman in 1972 in a model for teaching a total person approach to the present day. The discussion on primary, secondary and tertiary prevention interventions Dr. Neuman first outlined in Riehl and Roy (1974) will highlight Neuman Systems Model scholars who have built on the concept of person-centered care. Dr Fawcett’s metaparadigm, first described in 1978, will be examined beginning with Person, Health, Nursing and Environment to person-centered care approaches in present day.
