The Nursology.net Advisory Team and the Margaret A. Newman Center for Nursing Theory are launching the Nursology Forums – a series of virtual 1-2 hour gatherings that will focus on burning questions about nursing knowledge and its application in practice, education, research, and health care policy. Each Forum will be hosted by a nurse scholar who will introduce ideas and questions designed to spark conversation, reflection, and debate.
The January 2027 Forum will be “Positioning Nursing Knowledge Where It Belongs – In Nursing!” Registration is open and free. Peggy Chinn will be the host. Here are the burning questions for this Forum:
- Many research projects, practice settings and nursing education programs do not yet ground their work in nursing theory, and perspectives related to ethics tend to be co-opted by discourse around medical bio-ethics.Assuming change is needed to bring nursing knowledge to the center? How can we encourage and facilitate this change?
- What are the barriers to making this change? How can these barriers be addressed and overcome?
- In Nursing education, what could a “Nursology 101” course be for entry-level programs? For advanced degree programs a “Nursology 601”?
The Forums replace the Virtual Nursing Theory Week that were held for the past several years. They provide an opportunity for nursologists in all walks of nursing to explore contemporary issues that shape the nature of nursing and the ongoing development of nursing knowledge. The Forum Website gives details about the Forums scheduled for January through June 2027. Proposals for July-December Forums will be open in January!
Registration is open now for the first few forums in 2027. And registration is free, and easy! Once you register you will receive the Zoom meeting information. So head on over to the Forum Website and explore the Forums for January-June 2027. Get the dates on your calendar! And register now!
